Estimates of absenteeism for smokers compared to nonsmokers range from 33% to 73.5% depending on the researcher. The evidence is clear that smokers in general are absent from work more often than nonsmokers.1

When smoking is curtailed, rather than banned, smokers may spend as much as 8% of their work time on smoking-related activities.1
