Smoking Cessation Approaches & Options

Clinicians should ask and record the tobacco-use status of every patient

In addition, we recommend that clinicians include:

  • at what age patient began smoking
  • past four years of smoking history
  • exposure to second-hand smoke as a child and as an adult for those who have smoked and those who have not
  • history of cancer incidence in the family, especially lung cancer
