The Diagnosis and Management of Lung Cancer: ACCP Evidence-Based Guideline was published in CHEST in January 2003. This full-text guideline and the Quick Reference Guide are accessible from http://www.chestnet.org/education/guidelines/. This Slide Kit is intended to facilitate presentations to tumor boards and other discussions on lung cancer. It is based on the original full-text document and reflects the content areas covered in the first edition. The second edition, to be published in 2006, will include additional topics.

You are requested to complete and return the evaluation form, which is the fourth slide of the introduction. We seek to continually improve ACCP products based on feedback from users.

Panel Composition: W. Michael Alberts, MD, FCCP, of the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, served as the chair of this panel, and Dr. Gene Colice, Washington Hospital Center in Washington DC, served as vice chair. The Center for Clinical Health Policy Research at Duke University executed the review of existing guidelines, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses and the de novo review of four designated topic areas. The international panel of over 80 thoracic oncology experts represents a diverse group, both geographically and in terms of medical specialty (seven specialties are embodied). Representatives from thirteen other medical, nursing, and patient advocacy associations participated in the development of the guideline, as follows:

  • American Association for Bronchology
  • Association of Community Cancer Centers
  • American College of Surgeons Oncology Group
  • American College of Physicians
  • American Cancer Society
  • Alliance for Lung Cancer Advocacy, Support and Education
  • American Society for Clinical Oncology
  • American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology
  • American Thoracic Society
  • Canadian Lung Association
  • National Comprehensive Cancer Network
  • Oncology Nurses Society
  • Society of Thoracic Surgeons
